EBS Staff Receive Long-Awaited Salary Following Okpebholo’s Intervention

In a significant turn of events, 69 staff members of the Edo Broadcasting Service (EBS), who were appointed on 1st August 2024 under the administration of Governor Godwin Obaseki, have finally received their long-overdue salaries, which had been outstanding for a staggering seven months.

Despite their appointments, these employees were unfortunately not included in the state payroll, leaving them in a dire financial situation.

Upon assuming office, Governor Monday Okpebholo was made aware of this pressing issue by Sulaiman Aledeh, the Managing Director of Edo Broadcasting Service.

In response, the governor promptly requested a thorough investigation to verify that the proper hiring procedures were adhered to during the recruitment process. Following this, he assured the EBS MD that steps would be taken to rectify the situation and ensure that the affected staff would receive the compensation they were owed.

The atmosphere at the EBS headquarters was one of sheer jubilation this evening as the long-awaited salary alerts came through on the employees’ mobile banking applications.

Many staff members expressed their heartfelt gratitude to Governor Okpebholo for fulfilling his commitment to their financial stability, enabling them to provide for their families without further hardship.

In addition to this landmark resolution, Governor Okpebholo has recently made headlines by abolishing the previous system whereby cleaners in the state were employed through external consultants.

He has mandated that all cleaning staff be directly employed, thereby guaranteeing them a fair minimum wage and access to the benefits that accompany state civil service roles.

The people of Edo State have been actively discussing the unprecedented developmental strides made under Governor Okpebholo’s leadership, with many expressing hope that these positive changes will continue. Residents are grateful for this much-needed progress, remarking that they have never experienced such sustained improvement in their livelihoods and working conditions.

As the governor continues to implement reforms and address the needs of the Edo populace, there is a palpable sense of optimism for the future among citizens, who are eagerly anticipating further advancements in governance and public service.
