Dangote Refinery Debunks NNPCL’s N898/Litre Claim, Calls it Misleading

Dangote Refinery has issued a strong rebuttal to a statement attributed to NNPCL spokesperson, Olufemi Soneye, claiming that the refinery sells Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) to NNPCL at N898 per liter.

In a statement signed on September 15th, 2024, by Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer, Anthony Chiejina, Dangote Refinery described the claim as “misleading and mischievous,” aimed at undermining the milestone achievement in addressing Nigeria’s energy insufficiency and insecurity.

Chiejina urged Nigerians to disregard the statement and await a formal announcement on pricing from the Technical Sub-Committee on Naira-based crude sales to local refineries, appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The committee’s announcement is expected to commence on October 1, 2024.

Chiejina noted that the current stock of crude was procured in dollars, and the products were sold to NNPCL in dollars, resulting in significant savings.

Dangote Refinery assured Nigerians of the availability of quality petroleum products, aiming to end endemic fuel scarcity in the country. The refinery’s efforts will ensure petrol availability in every local government area, regardless of remoteness.

Chiejina’s statement reads: “With this action, there will be petrol in every local government area of the country regardless of their remote nature. We assure Nigerians of availability of quality petroleum product and putting an end to the endemic fuel scarcity in the country.”

The clarification comes as Dangote Refinery prepares to commence local refining, marking a significant milestone in Nigeria’s quest for energy self-sufficiency.
