Court remands Ondo pastor for allegedly raping and impregnating 15-year-old girl

A Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Akure, Ondo State, has remanded a pastor, Oluwasegun Victor, in prison for allegedly raping and impregnating a 15-year-old girl.

The 31-year-old Cherubim and Seraphim Church cleric was arrested by the men of State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps for allegedly committing the offence at Oba Ile Community in Akure North Local Government Area of the state.

Victor was later arraigned before the court on a one-count charge of unlawful s3xual intercourse with a minor

At the court on Thursday, September 5, 2024, the NSCDC prosecutor, Mr David Ebriku, said the offence committed by the defendant contravened Section 31(1) of the Child Rights Laws of Ondo State 2007 and was punishable under Section 31(2) of the same Laws

The charge read “That you, Olusegun Victor, male, 31 years old, at about 1 pm on the 24th day of July 2024 at No 73 Owode, off Airport Road, Oba-Ile, Akure within Akure Magisterial district did commit a felony, to wit, unlawful sexual intercourse on a minor, (name withheld), 15 years, thereby committed an offence contrary to section 31(1) of the Child Rights’ Laws of Ondo State 2007 and punishable under section 31(2) of the same laws.”

The prosecutor urged the court to remand the defendant to a correctional centre.

The defence counsel, Mr. Alex Olademehin, however asked the court for time to respond to the remand application.

Ruling, the magistrate, Mr Taiwo Lebi, ordered the defendant to be remanded at a correctional centre.

The court adjourned the case till September 19, 2024, for hearing of the bail application
