An FCT High Court sitting in Maitama on Thursday remanded the former Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), Danladi Umar, at the Kuje Correctional Centre pending the hearing of his bail application.
Justice Peter Kekemeke gave the order after Umar was arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on a four-count charge bordering on allegedly conferring undue advantage on himself while serving as chairman of the tribunal.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
Counsel to the EFCC, Christopher Mshelia, urged the court to fix a date for trial and remand the defendant in custody pending further proceedings.
Responding, counsel to Umar informed the court that a bail application had already been filed on behalf of the defendant and urged the court to hear the application.
However, the prosecution opposed the request, stating that it had only just been served with the application and required time to study and file its response.
Following submissions by both parties, Justice Kekemeke adjourned the matter until July 15 for the hearing of the bail application.
The judge subsequently ordered that Umar be remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre pending the determination of his application for bail.
