20-foot container-laden truck has crashed into a broken-down Lagos Waste Management Authority truck at Apakun, inward Iyana-Isolo, Lagos State.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority disclosed the incident on Thursday in a post on its official X account, accompanied by a video showing the scene of the accident.
According to LASTMA, the crash occurred overnight and involved the LAWMA truck and the containerised truck, which reportedly rammed into the stationary vehicle.
The agency said its rescue team had been deployed to the scene, while a crane and a high-capacity tow truck were activated to remove the damaged vehicles and restore the free flow of traffic.
LASTMA stated, “We recorded an overnight accident at Apakun inward Iyana-Isolo, involving a broken-down LAWMA truck and a 20-ft containerised truck which rammed into it.
“A crane machine and high-capacity tow truck have been activated.
“The LASTMA Rescue Team is presently at the scene, and the casualty recorded has been taken to the hospital.”
A video released by the agency showed an individual lying on the road at the accident scene.
However, the identity of the victim and the extent of the injuries could not be independently verified as of the time of filing this report. LASTMA also did not disclose further details about the victim’s condition.
The incident has once again raised concerns over the safety of heavy-duty vehicles and the risks posed by truck breakdowns on major Lagos roads.
A broken-down vehicle on a busy carriageway can obstruct traffic and expose other motorists to secondary collisions, particularly at night or in areas with poor visibility.
Authorities have consistently advised motorists and operators of heavy-duty vehicles to observe safety regulations, properly mark broken-down vehicles and ensure that such vehicles are removed from the roadway as quickly as possible.
