CDHR Condemns the Killing of Vanguard Reporter, Sympathises with NUJ

The Committee for the Defence of Human Rights condemns, in totality, the killing of Vanguard reporter, Tordue Salem, who was found dead in Abuja after being declared missing over a reasonable length of time.

In a statement signed by it’s National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Idris Afees Olayinka and made available to NAOSRE, the organization described the incident as shocking, scary and disheartening.
It is sad and devastating moment for journalism profession and the entire nation as wanton loss of lives and the general insecurity in the system is worrisome.

The organization mourns and sympathises with the Nigerian Union of Journalists over this sad incident and loss of a rare gem whose sudden disappearance turned out to be a tragic terminus. Nigerians and the journalism profession will continue to remember his diligence, commitment and sacrifice to duty.

CDHR, however, calls the attention of government and other Security apparatus to bring the perpetrators of this callous act to book as soon as possible and step up measures to stem the current insecurity challenges in the country.

While CDHR continues to monitor the investigation process that will possibly lead to the arrest and prosecution of the killers, the organization sympathises with the family of the bereaved, prays to Almighty God to give the family fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
