BHM Congratulates First Female President of Nigerian Society of Engineers in 65 Years

Management and staff of BlackHouse Media (BHM) have congratulated Engr. Margaret Aina Oguntala, on her election as the 34th president of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE).

On January 1, 2024, Margaret Oguntala officially became the first female president in the 65-year history of the NSE.

The investiture ceremony for Oguntala, alongside other newly elected executives, is scheduled to take place at the International Conference Centre in Abuja on January 20, 2024. Distinguished guests expected to be present at the event include Nigeria’s President, Bola Tinubu; Senate President, Godswill Akpabio; Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike; House of Representatives Speaker, Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, and other prominent government officials.

The Founder and CEO of BHM, Ayeni Adekunle, describes Oguntala as an astute professional with an impressive track record and contributions across engineering practice, academia, and policymaking.

“Over the years, the NSE has been pivotal in shaping national policy, providing a collective voice for Nigerian engineers, and delivering exceptional service to members. Eng. Oguntala’s impressive track record and contributions across engineering practice, academia, and policymaking make her immensely qualified to lead this esteemed professional body.

“Her successful election by this body of distinguished professionals is a testament to her unwavering commitment to excellence, her leadership, and her dedication to the engineering community in Nigeria. It is therefore incredibly rewarding to see her take on this significant leadership role,” he says.

Oguntala, a Chemical Engineering graduate from the University of Benin (UNIBEN) and seasoned NSE veteran, joined the association in 1999 and achieved the status of fellow in 2010. Her extensive service includes roles such as Chairman of the Ikeja branch from 2010 to 2011, National Exco member in 2012 and 2013, Vice President in 2014, 2015, and 2016, and Deputy President from 2021 to 2023. Additionally, she founded BAMSAT Nigeria Limited and serves as a board director for several companies.

Holding an impressive record, Oguntala has received over 53 awards, including the prestigious NSE Presidential awards on 10 occasions. She has also been honoured with the APWEN Innovative Leader Award, APBN Meritorious Service awards, and recognition from various NSE Branches and Divisions.

The Nigerian Society of Engineers serves as the umbrella organisation for the engineering profession in Nigeria, addressing the professional needs of its members through well-structured programs and regular interactions among different membership cadres, promoting high professional standards and ethical practices.
