The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) has revealed that it will end multiple taxation of goods and services as well as illegal roadblocks across the country.
The association revealed this in a statement signed by its national secretary for publicity, Mr. Solomon Onah, and released on Wednesday in Abuja, after the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held in Enugu.
The association said it was taking the initiative in collaboration with the National Multiple Anti-Taxation Scheme (NAMTAXS) and the National Transit Insurance Scheme (NATIS).
The initiative, the statement said, would optimally respond to food security challenges, lower the cost of goods and curb inflation in the country.
“It will also strengthen the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of local governments and regional councils in collaboration with federal and state governments and other stakeholders.
“NEC is pleased that the projects seek to bring all road users together and capture them in its tax net.
“NEC has also set up a five-person committee to properly harmonize all modalities for their launch and report back in two weeks for implementation,” the statement said.
The statement said that NEC also asked the contractor running their comprehensive primary health care centers to come back to the site within a week and ensure that they have delivered an additional 300 PHC to them by the end of the year at the latest. August 2021.
“On the issue of ALGON’s Comprehensive Primary Health Care Centers, the NEC expressed dissatisfaction and dissatisfaction with the contractor regarding the limited and low number of centers running across the country.
“NEC ordered the contractor, MM. Mathan Nigeria Limited, to return to the site within one week and that an additional 300 PHCs are expected to be completed, fully equipped and delivered to ALGON by the end of August 2021 at the latest.
“NEC also reiterated that it will not hesitate to take the necessary measures to enforce compliance by the contractor,” the statement said.
The NEC appreciated all of its representatives when presenting its memoranda to the Senate and Federal House of Representatives zonal public hearings on the 1999 Constitution Amendment.
He expressed the hope that favorable considerations would be given to the issues raised and also urged its members to continually engage members of states and national assemblies on issues which included, a uniform four-year term for all presidents in council. of local authorities and the conduct of local elections, on the scheduled date.
Others were increasing the allocation of the Federation account to local governments to 35.5 percent, as well as repealing the joint account of state and local governments, in addition to its support for state police, in order to reduce the growing security challenges in the country.
“On the sustainable paradigm shift to build capacity of members and collaborate with local and international agencies, NEC endorsed continued engagement with key stakeholders,” the statement said.
NEC also passed a vote of confidence on the National President of ALGON, the Honorable Kolade Alabi, for his inclusive leadership, he added. (NAN)
