The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has urged Nigerians to overcome anxiety and life’s pressures by making rejoicing, prayer and thanksgiving part of their daily routine.
Adeboye gave the advice while preaching at the church’s headquarters in Lagos on Sunday, explaining that he had found the three practices could transform people’s lives when done sincerely.
The cleric, who referenced 1 Thessalonians 5:16–17, encouraged believers to begin each day with joy and praise.
He urged Christians to let go of past experiences and allow the joy of the Lord to guide their lives.
Adeboye also advised believers not to be consumed by worries about the future, particularly when they have faith in God’s ability to provide and sustain them.
“If I am not where I am by my ability, why should I worry about tomorrow? He took care of me yesterday; He will take care of me tomorrow,” he said.
The RCCG leader further encouraged Christians to develop a consistent prayer life instead of allowing their challenges to overwhelm them.
“Pray always. Make your requests known to God. Rather than worry over your problems, pray about them,” he said.
According to Adeboye, prayer allows people to bring their concerns and circumstances before God rather than carrying their burdens alone.
He identified thanksgiving as the third practice, urging believers to remain grateful regardless of their circumstances.
“In everything give thanks. Don’t allow your circumstances to affect your life. Give thanks irrespective of what you are going through in life,” he said.
The service, which was dedicated to judges and lawyers, also featured Adeboye speaking about advocacy, with reference to Romans 8:31.
He described Jesus Christ as the ultimate advocate for believers, saying that Christ stands on behalf of those who seek forgiveness even when they have made mistakes.
“He is the only advocate who goes to the judge and says, ‘My client is guilty as charged. But release him and take me instead. He gave himself for us,’” Adeboye said.
