Gateway Air, the Ogun State-owned airline, in partnership with ValueJet, has commenced a daily air service linking Abuja with Gateway International Airport, Iperu, through Lagos.
The service, known as the Abuja-Lagos-Gateway route, provides passengers with a direct connection between the Federal Capital Territory and Ogun State’s commercial and industrial corridor.
The airlines said the early morning service, departing Abuja at 6:30 a.m., was designed to enable business travellers, industrialists, students and passengers visiting friends and families to maximise their day in Ogun.
Speaking on the service, Omololu Majekodunmi, Managing Director of ValueJet, said the early morning departure was designed around the needs of passengers with demanding schedules.
“Our daily Abuja-Lagos-Gateway service is about giving our passengers their day back. With the option to fly five days a week, whether you are travelling for business or personal engagements in Ogun State and its environs, the service provides a route that fits around a busy schedule,” he said.
Also speaking, the Ogun Commissioner for Transportation, Engr. Olugbenga Dairo, said the service was in line with the state government’s vision of improving air connectivity.
Dairo said the Gateway Air service responded to the growing demand from residents, businesses and visitors for air connections to major commercial and population centres across the country.
He said Gov. Dapo Abiodun had directed the airline to continually review and optimise its flight schedule and fleet size in response to travellers’ needs and expectations.
“Ogun State has emerged as an important commercial and industrial corridor in Nigeria, driven by its concentration of manufacturing, industrial estates, agricultural activity, logistics, real estate development and economic free trade zones.
“Its proximity to Lagos, combined with the presence of major businesses and industrial clusters across the state, has increased demand for efficient connections for investors, business owners, professionals, government officials and other travellers,” he said.
The commissioner said regular air access through Gateway International Airport would provide an additional link into the state’s economic corridor and reduce dependence on long road journeys for passengers travelling from Abuja and other parts of Nigeria.
The partnership brings together Gateway Air’s role in improving Ogun’s air connectivity and ValueJet’s operational expertise to provide a consistent connection for travellers between the FCT and the state.
The operation of the route is also part of ValueJet’s broader strategy of supporting key state partnerships and expanding air connectivity.
ValueJet operates a domestic network and regional services to destinations including Accra and Banjul, with further expansion planned to Libreville and other destinations.
The airline said recent fleet additions, including Boeing 737NG and CRJ-series aircraft, would support its growing operational capacity across Gateway Air’s routes and its wider network.
