Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has described Ndigbo as “very nice” and trustworthy people, saying they are worthy of partnership in all spheres of national life.
Mrs Tinubu made the remarks during her one-day official visit to Anambra State, where she received a civic reception at the Dr Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka, the state capital.
The First Lady was also conferred with the chieftaincy title of “Ugoeze Anambra” (Royal Eagle) by the Anambra State Council of Traditional Rulers, led by its chairman, Igwe Chidubem Iweka III of Obosi Kingdom.
Expressing appreciation for the warm reception she received from the people of Anambra, Mrs Tinubu said she was highly impressed by the hospitality shown to her and promised to return to the state to express her gratitude.
Earlier, she commissioned a Technological Centre at the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, in Orumba South Local Government Area of the state.
She commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration, describing it as “very superb” and saying the governor had distinguished himself through what she described as quality leadership.
Mrs Tinubu also praised the governor’s wife, Nonye Soludo, for empowering 5,000 indigent residents of the state.
She announced that she would provide ₦100,000 to each of the beneficiaries to complement the empowerment initiative.
“I didn’t come here for campaign but as a Nigerian. I will come back in due course because Ndigbo are very nice people and trustworthy,” she said.
The First Lady stressed that her visit to Anambra and other states in the South-East was not connected to political campaigning.
She said she was visiting the region as a Nigerian and would return for campaign activities when the appropriate time came.
According to her, the visit was intended to promote national unity and support citizens irrespective of their political affiliations or geographical locations.
“I am not in the state for political campaign but as a united country, men and women, the citizens must be their brothers’ keepers wherever they are,” she said.
