Three-Storey Building Collapses in Abuja Hours After Officials Sealed Structure

A three-storey commercial building in Wuse Zone 4, Abuja, collapsed on Monday evening, September 7, 2026, just hours after officials of the FCT Administration’s Development Control Department reportedly sealed the structure and ordered occupants to vacate the premises.

The building came down in the evening, prompting an emergency response as rescue teams, including personnel from the FCT Fire Service, rushed to the scene.

The FCT Emergency Management Department (FEMD) said it received a distress call about the collapse at approximately 7:20 p.m. and immediately mobilised emergency personnel to the area.

According to FEMD, eyewitnesses at the scene initially reported that there were no casualties. However, the agency said search-and-rescue operations were ongoing as emergency responders assessed the collapsed structure and worked to determine whether anyone was trapped beneath the rubble.

The circumstances surrounding the collapse, particularly the fact that the building had reportedly been sealed earlier in the day, are expected to come under scrutiny as authorities continue their assessment of the incident.
