Shooting Stars of Ibadan secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Tunisian side CS Sfaxien in their CAF Confederation Cup encounter at the MKO Abiola Sports Arena in Abeokuta on Saturday.
Lucky Emmanuel scored the decisive goal in the 25th minute, giving the Nigerian side a deserved lead going into the half-time break.
CS Sfaxien returned for the second half with renewed determination, piling pressure on the hosts in search of an equaliser. However, Shooting Stars’ goalkeeper produced a solid performance to keep the Tunisian attackers at bay.
The home side’s defence also remained resolute throughout the second half, frustrating CS Sfaxien and preventing them from finding a way through.
Shooting Stars had opportunities to extend their lead late in the match but failed to convert their chances.
The victory gives the Ibadan-based club a crucial advantage ahead of the second leg of the CAF Confederation Cup tie next weekend.
