Arsenal loanee Ethan Nwaneri played a decisive role as Borussia Dortmund came from two goals down to beat Hoffenheim 3-2 in a thrilling Bundesliga encounter on Saturday.
Hoffenheim dominated the opening stages and appeared firmly in control after taking a 2-0 lead through Leon Avdullahu and Tim Lemperle.
Nwaneri, who joined Dortmund on a season-long loan from Arsenal on transfer deadline day, was introduced after just 30 minutes following an injury to Filippo Mané.
The 18-year-old, who became the youngest player to appear in Premier League history, helped Dortmund turn the match around as the visitors produced a remarkable late comeback.
Serhou Guirassy reduced the deficit shortly after the hour mark before setting up Fabio Silva five minutes later as Dortmund drew level.
With just four minutes of normal time remaining, Nwaneri drove forward on the left and unleashed a shot towards goal. His effort took a significant deflection off Hoffenheim defender Albian Hajdari and ended up in the net, completing Dortmund’s comeback.
Elversberg Continue Dream Bundesliga Start
Bundesliga newcomers Elversberg also produced another stunning result, beating Borussia Mönchengladbach 4-3 to make it two victories from two matches in their first-ever top-flight season.
Gladbach twice took the lead and moved 3-1 ahead midway through the second half, but Elversberg refused to give up despite losing manager Vincent Wagner to a second yellow card shortly before half-time.
Felix Keidel equalised with 10 minutes remaining before Maurice Krattenmacher completed the comeback in stoppage time with his second goal of the game.
With a population of only around 13,000, Elversberg are the smallest town ever to have a German top-flight club. They began their historic campaign with a surprise 3-2 victory over Bayer Leverkusen last week.
Leverkusen Bounce Back
Leverkusen responded strongly to that defeat by thrashing Union Berlin 4-0 at home.
Argentina internationals Equi Fernández and Facundo Medina put Leverkusen two goals ahead before half-time.
England defender Jarell Quansah then set up Patrik Schick for the third, while Ibrahim Maza completed the rout with a stylish late finish.
Elsewhere, Niclas Füllkrug continued his impressive return to Germany by scoring his second goal in three matches as Werder Bremen defeated RB Leipzig 3-1.
Füllkrug scored with a long-range header, while Eren Dinkçi and Marco Grüll also found the net for Bremen.
Europa League finalists Freiburg maintained their perfect start to the season with a narrow 1-0 away victory over newly promoted Paderborn.
Defending champions Bayern Munich were scheduled to face promoted Schalke later on Saturday.
