Three Nigerian children have won gold medals at the International STEM Olympiad, emerging among the top performers in the global competition.

The winners are Chimdiebube Onwubiko, Don Anele Munachimso and Onyedikachi Egejurum.

Education technologist Alex Onyia announced the achievement in a post on X on Tuesday, describing it as a significant milestone for Nigeria.

According to Onyia, Munachimso won the gold medal in Science and emerged as the overall best performer globally in the category.

He added that the student had earlier been recognised as Nigeria’s best performer in IGCSE Chemistry.

Onyia also disclosed that Egejurum won the gold medal and emerged as the world’s best in the Primary Mathematics category.

He said Onwubiko also secured a gold medal at the international competition.

“The investment is worth it,” Onyia wrote, adding that the achievement marks “the beginning of greatness for the country.”

The feat followed the conclusion of the International STEM Olympiad, which brought together young participants from several countries to compete in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM)-related disciplines.

The achievement has been hailed as another demonstration of the academic excellence and global competitiveness of Nigerian pupils in international educational competitions.
