MTN Nigeria Faces Class Action Lawsuit Over Alleged Data Mismanagement

MTN

A group of Nigerians have launched a class action lawsuit against MTN Nigeria, accusing the telecom giant of unexplained data usage and rapid depletion.

The controversy began after a viral post on X (formerly Twitter), where an individual expressed interest in taking legal action and shared evidence of unusual data activity.

This post rallied many others to join the cause, sharing grievances and pledging support.

To coordinate efforts, a Google Form was circulated to gather names of affected users, alleging issues such as false data top-ups and excessive costs without value.

Comparisons to mobile data costs and usage patterns in other countries intensified frustration, as users expressed their determination to demand accountability.

The viral post triggered widespread reactions on social media, with individuals recounting their experiences and voicing their thoughts on the lawsuit. Here are some notable tweets:

@okumaonome: “Why MTN specifically? Why not all of em? Because MTN would have been out of business if others were different.”

@akpoobomedamsel: “I’ll join. Enough of them robbing us in brod day light.”

@JayAdediran: “Lol, a class action against MTN?? You have a better chance at sighting a polar bear in Nigeria than getting anywhere with the class action.”

@Ilaria174642458: “I did 3.2gb and I checked the app active bundle only for them to allocate me 2.5gb I complained they started apologising and saying meaningless things.”

@zaza_the_great: “One for Airtel, one for MTN. I’m willing and ready, if we want to use traditional methods I’m also ready.”

@Zeem_Miles: “What should Airtel and 9mobile users do cos those ones are extraordinary in their data.”

@Richjackhim: “I’m active too this rubbish needs to stop.”

As of now, MTN Nigeria has not issued an official statement regarding the class action claims. The situation continues to draw attention as frustrated users seek answers and justice.
