ADC Congratulates Buhari, Okonjo-Iweala on WTO DG

The  African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Monday congratulated Nigeria’s former Minister of Finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, on her emergence as the first female African Director-General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO).

National Chairman of ADC, Ralphs  Nwosu, said in a statement that Okonjo-Iweala’s confirmation came at a time when drums of disintegration were expanding in Nigeria.

The party said her new position came as a relief to citizens  who still believed in a greater Nigeria in the near future.

It also congratulated President Muhammadu Buhari and all Nigerians for Okonjo-Iweala’s struggle for the world’s number one trade facilitating position, adding that it was not by chance that Nigerian men and women were directing critical affairs globally.

Nwosu said:”We  thank all countries and groups that have made this dream a reality and assure them that the new DG will put her experience to bear in her new duty.

“She will demonstrate to the world, once again, that Nigerians, can excel in the toughest of terrains.

“Okonjo-Iweala has demonstrated her capacity to lead in any frontline global position, as a two-time minister in Nigeria.

“She was a force to reckon with at the World Bank, among others. We are sure that she will justify the confidence reposed in her.”

The ADC chairman, however, urged the president to urgently address the ongoing ethnic crisis in the country.
