    NDLEA Seizes 40,250kg Codeine Worth N2b at Lagos Port

    Barely a week after National Drug Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) agents seized 14,080kg of codeine-based syrup at the seaport of Apapa, Lagos, they have re-intercepted 40,250kg of the Schedule 2 controlled narcotic by worth over a billion N2 imported in two 40ft containers from India.

    “Both seizures followed intelligence from foreign partners and the cooperation of other port stakeholders such as Customs, DSS, Navy and others,” NDLEA spokesman Femi Babafemi said in a statement.

    “The last shipments intercepted on Tuesday, February 8, were entered into the country in two containers marked HLBU 2239792 with 1,125 cartons of the drug and HLBU 1067338 with 1,751 cartons, with a market value of N2,012,500,000 (Two billion, twelve million five hundred thousand naira).

    “The shipments were seized at Port Express Bonded Terminal, Berger-Apapa after they were discovered hidden behind boxes of 200mg hyperfat and deluxe cold cutters, after which Agency sniffer dogs were brought in to identify the substance. illegal”.

    In reaction to the latest seizure, NDLEA President/CEO, Brig. General Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd) said the Agency remains poised to deal decisive blows to drug cartels this year by ensuring that not a single gram of illicit drug is allowed to enter or pass through Nigeria to other countries. .

    While he commended the officers and men of the Agency’s Apapa Port Special Area Command for their vigilance, he expressed gratitude to foreign partners for sharing timely intelligence and to other port stakeholders for their cooperation.
