Senate Approves N633.39bn 2022 Budget for NCC

The Senate approved the sum of N633. 39 billion as a budget for the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, for fiscal year 2022.

The approval followed the consideration of a report by the Communications Commission on Wednesday during plenary.

The Chairperson of the Committee, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, APC-Lagos, in her presentation, said that of the approved amount, N86, 242, 952 was for Recurring Expenses; N30, 336, 144 for capital expenditures, N42, 445, 864 for special projects; N466,868,323 was transferred to the Federal Government, while N7,500,000 as Transfer to the Universal Service Provision Fund.

He explained that the Commission Income of N633.3 billion consisted of Annual License Fees (N1.5 billion); Annual operating tax (124 billion naira); Spectrum fee charges (N450.2 billion); Numbering plan (N9.5 billion); Administrative charges (N4.4 billion); Type approval fees (N902 million) and Penalty fees (N165 million).

The legislator added that others include: Miscellaneous Revenue – N5 million, Federal Government Intervention for Broadband Infrastructure – N41.6 billion, and Transfer from the Reserve – N1 billion.

In a related development, the Senate also approved Wednesday the sum of N8,824,847,408 billion as the 2022 budget for the Universal Service Provision Fund.

Ms. Tinubu, in a second presentation, said that of the approved amount, N1, 923, 760, 092 was for Recurring Expenses; N357, 959, 020 for capital expenditures; and N6, 543,128, 296 for Projects and Programs.
