Customs Generates Over N1trn Revenue in 6 Months

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) generated 1,003 trillion naira in revenue in six months, according to service spokesperson Joseph Attah.

Attah made this known when speaking to reporters in Abuja on Thursday.

He helps the amount was realized from January to June 2021, adding that it was far more than the 713.5 billion naira generated during the same period in 2020.

According to him, there is a positive difference of 290.2 billion naira.

“Reaching the trillion naira mark in six months is unprecedented in the Service. This achievement is the result of a steadfast pursuit of what is right and a willingness to adapt to changes brought on by the global health challenges brought on by COVID-19.

“The service revenue profile continues to increase due to ongoing reforms that harness the potential of technology.

“This is possible thanks to robust automation of processes and procedures. Deploy agents strictly on the basis of standard operating procedure.

“Strong stakeholder awareness translates into more informed / voluntary compliance as well as improved working relations with the National Assembly,” he said.

“As indicated by the CCG at the start of the year, it is always the Service’s desire to generate more income than what is set, given the favorable environment.

“NCS will always be willing and happy to break their records as is the case in this case of over a trillion naira in 6 months,” he said.

Attah further disclosed that during the period under review, the Service made a total of 2,333 assorted seizures with a duty-paid value of N 4.4 billion.

Some of those seizures, he said, included dangerous items like weapons and ammunition, illicit drugs and food items like rice, vegetable oil.

He said what was seized could have had serious consequences for national security and the economy. (NAN)
