An up-and-coming artiste, Mr Gafar Haruna also known as Maturedmind, on Saturday said the entertainment industry had witnessed growth leveraging on social media.
Haruna told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that social media had been the new entertainment revolution due to its high rate of adoption and use.
He said it was synonymous with entertainment as they go side-by-side because it serves as the pedestal for going global and reaching where one could not physically reach.
According to him, social media has also created more international recognition for Nigerian artistes such as Burna boy with over 131 million views, Johnny by Yemi Alade with 129 views on YouTube among others.
The artiste said that these were feats that could not have been achieved physically, hence the entertainment industry had been blessed by social media.
“The benefit is countless ranging from a cost-saving angle to a revenue-generating angle down to the ability to have an entire entertainment outfit without a physical office or equipment.
It is also reaching millions of people through this exceptional social media channel.
“Entertainment industry had latched on to this great platform though there is room for them to do more.
“Not even forgetting the effect of the pandemic that had forced most traditional entertainment channels to switch to the digital channel being social media,’’ he said.
Haruna also encouraged that with the growth of the industry through social media, nation building should be in the DNA of every artiste because music is a medium of communication.
“If unity, peace, love, and care which is key is not engrained in one’s music, then such artiste would not go far and won’t have a lot of acceptability from many.
“My music has those key components and I am working toward improving my nation as a Nigerian because we are a highly populated country.
“If loved and accepted by my fellow Nigerians, then acceptability outside Nigeria is already a constant, after all there is a saying that charity begins at home.
“Hence nation building is a must when composing my music at all times,” he said.
NAN reports that Haruna’s label name is nufblue music while the site is nufbluemusic.com with a title album “Destined for the Top”.
