Respite for Healthcare Workers As MTN/AU Vaccine Arrives In Two Weeks

Nigerian healthcare workers will soon heave a sigh of relief as MTN/AU Vaccine is set to arrive the country in two weeks time.

Since the outbreak of the Coronavirus disease in Nigeria, our healthcare workers have risen to the challenge and continued to lead the charge against the disease.

As we continue to record more cases of the virus in the country, healthcare workers are increasingly exposed to the disease making them vulnerable.

Sometimes it’s easy to forget that healthcare workers are human beings like the rest of us and vulnerable to the same viruses that affect us.

They have taken on their superhero role so well, that they seem almost superhuman.

However, the increasing rates in the infection of health workers across the country suggests they are not, and that they need just as much protection and care as everyone else.

This is why the 25 million dollars donation by MTN to the African Union’s vaccination programme is timely.

MTN’s contribution will help secure 7 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines to be distributed to health workers across the continent.

Nigerian health workers are expected to receive the larger share of the 7 million doses as they arrive in two weeks.

MTN’s partnership with the AU is in furtherance of the Y’ello Hope package launched in 2020 and driven by its GoodTogether philosophy.

The donation will strengthen the fight against COVID-19 in Nigeria by ensuring that frontline workers are well catered for and protected.

It is also expected that the arrival of the vaccines secured by MTN will spur other organisations to compliment the government’s efforts in ensuring that Africans are vaccinated against the virus.
