The National Pensions Commission (PenCom) announced on Tuesday that it had developed an online application to automate pre-retirement verification and registration.
A statement signed by the commission’s head of corporate communications, Mr. Peter Aghahowa, in Lagos, said the app has the ability to register, verify and enroll future retirees from ministries, departments and Federal government agencies (MDAs) funded by the Treasury.
Aghahowa said PenCom will test the online registration application between August 2 and August 20 with selected MDAs.
He said MDAs would be selected from the six geopolitical zones of the country, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
“Accordingly, the online registration request would be hosted on PenCom’s website: www.pencom.gov.ng.
“As a prelude to the formal deployment of the online registration application, PenCom would begin a pilot series of the exercise from August 2 to 20.
“This will be done with selected MDAs in the six geopolitical zones and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to test the application with real-time data,” he said.
He said the app would go live after testing on a date to be announced by the commission in due course.
The PenCom spokesperson explained that affected retirees or retirees have to undergo data recovery with their respective pension fund administrators (PFAs) as a prerequisite for online registration.
Aghahowa said data recovery involved updating personal information and providing a National Identification Number (NIN).
“However, retirees or future retirees who have already undergone the data recovery exercise with their PFAs are not required to repeat the exercise,” he said. (NAN)
