Pan-African non-profit, Paradigm Initiative (PIN), has successfully concluded the first of three regional trainings designed to strengthen the digital competencies of primary and secondary school teachers, ICT coordinators, and education officers across East Africa.
The two-day Virtual ICT Teachers Workshop, introduced participants to basic and intermediate ICT tools relevant to education, demonstrated practical strategies for integrating technology into lesson planning and delivery, and promoted interactive, learner-centered teaching approaches. Key topics covered at the training included: digital tools for teaching and learning (such as Google Docs, Slides, Padlet, Kahoot), creating and sharing interactive content, introduction to virtual classrooms (Google Classroom, Zoom basics) and online assessment techniques.
Ihueze Nwobilor, Senior Programmes Officer at Paradigm Initiative, remarked that, “empowering the teachers with these practical digital skills is critical for shaping a new generation of learners who are confident, creative, and ready for the realities of the 21st-century classroom. This training is a step towards building inclusive and technology-ready education across Africa.”
“By equipping educators with the tools, strategies, and confidence to integrate technology effectively,” he added, “we ensure that more students in the target regions get access to better quality education.”
The workshop is part of a three-region series, covering East Africa, Francophone Africa, and Anglophone West Africa. The Francophone Africa edition will take place on September 29 and 30, 2025, and the Anglophone West Africa edition on October 7 and 8, 2025. Each session combines live interactive sessions and collaborative activities to maximise engagement and practical learning.
The ICT Teacher Workshops align with Paradigm Initiative’s broader goal of fostering digital inclusion in education, ensuring that African youth across the continent are equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to thrive in the digital era. By focusing on teachers, the initiative directly benefits students in under-served communities, promoting equitable access to technology-enhanced learning in the three regions targeted by the training.
