No Nigerian Parent Jokes About Education, Says President Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari says that no Nigerian parent jokes about education because they know that if their children or their wards missed the opportunity to be educated, they missed a lot.

The Nigerian leader said this during a panel discussion at the World Education Summit in London on Thursday.

According to him, the size and population of Nigeria are challenges for any administration, but despite this, the government and the people realize that education is the starting point for success.

“You can’t be successful outside of your degree. Anyone who missed education has missed everything.

“Nigerians are keenly aware of the priority of education, and parents make sacrifices to ensure that their children and their wards go to school,” he said.

On the panel with President Buhari were Presidents Nana Akufo-Addo from Ghana, Faure Gnassingbe from Togo, Uhuru Kenyatta from Kenya and Lazarus Chakwera from Malawi.

Each president spoke about the peculiarities of his country’s education sector and how the budget provisions would be increased to improve the situation.

They all raised their hands in commitment to this resolution.

Buhari previously pledged to increase the education budget by 50% over the next two years to ensure the country reaches 100% increase by 2025. (NAN)
