NNPC Reacts to Port Harcourt Refinery Fire Incident

Nigeria‘s National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, says the January 1 fire outbreak at Port Harcourt Refining Company, PHRC, was minor.

The fire, caused by a spark as a 33,000-liter truck dumped gasoline into a tank at the refinery, was contained in less than two hours.

“The fire affected only the dump truck and the pump compartment.

“No other property was damaged,” Garba Muhammad, CEO of the NNPC group, the group’s public affairs division, said in Abuja on Sunday.

He added that PHRC management mobilized the safety structure at the refinery immediately.

He also said that the support of the Federal Fire Service was helpful in bringing the fire under control quickly.

“Residents in the facility’s neighborhood need not worry, as safety of life and property is at the top of management’s priority list.

“PHRC management and staff also express their deep appreciation to all those who contributed to a swift end to the fire,” added Muhammed.
