MoMo PSB Celebrates Nigeria at 65 with Nationwide Free Transfers on Independence Day

    MTN Momo

As Nigeria marks 65 years of independence on October 1, MoMo Payment Service Bank, a subsidiary of MTN Nigeria, is celebrating the occasion by waiving transfer fees nationwide for 24 hours.

From 12:00 a.m. to 11:59 p.m., both new and existing customers can send money to friends, family, vendors, or colleagues without incurring any charges.

The initiative is aimed at easing financial pressure while honouring the spirit of freedom and unity that Independence Day represents.

Rosemary Aimankhu, Chief Commercial Officer of MTN Nigeria, said the gesture reflects MoMo’s commitment to financial freedom and its desire to make a meaningful impact on the lives of everyday Nigerians.

She noted that Independence Day is a moment to celebrate resilience and togetherness, and that MoMo’s offer is a practical way to support those values.

Since July, MoMo users have enjoyed free transfers, though previously the benefit was limited to smaller transactions. For Independence Day, the bank is extending the offer to all transfers, regardless of amount, allowing more Nigerians to benefit from charge-free services.

While waiving transfer fees may seem modest, it forms part of a broader strategy by MoMo to deliver small but impactful benefits to its customers.

These include 2% cashback on airtime and data purchases, and the ability to buy electricity tokens and pay for cable TV subscriptions without extra charges.

Aimankhu added that MoMo is focused on finding simple ways to add value to everyday life, and that Independence Day is another opportunity to demonstrate that commitment.

The company expects millions of Nigerians to take advantage of the offer as a way to cut costs and retain more money in their wallets. After Independence Day, free transfers will continue for transactions under ₦10,000 until the end of the year.

To access the offer, users can download the MoMo app from the App Store or Play Store, or dial *671# on their MTN line.
