Lagos Police Nab Visa Scam Syndicate Defrauding Over ₦500 Million

    POLICE

Lagos State Police Command has arrested four members of a syndicate accused of defrauding over 100 Nigerians through fake visa promises, with losses estimated at more than ₦500 million.

Commissioner of Police Olohundare Jimoh confirmed the arrests to journalists on Monday, August 11, revealing that the suspects — aged 23, 25, 27, and 36 — were apprehended on July 16 by officers from the Ago-Okota Division.

Following the case transfer, detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) discovered that the suspects, employees of an educational consultancy, allegedly posed as facilitators for Canadian and Australian work visas.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects fraudulently obtained over ₦500 million from more than 100 victims under the false pretense of facilitating Canadian and Australian work visas,” Jimoh said.

The suspects remain in custody and will be charged in court after investigations are completed. Police say efforts are underway to track down other members of the network still at large.
