ICYMI: Here Are Five Ways You Can Optimise Your Data!

Imagine you are streaming your favourite show or in the middle of a life-changing job interview, and suddenly, you lose your internet connection, simply because you’ve exhausted your newly subscribed data. It can be frustrating, right?

To avoid this, the Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) in Nigeria have come together to offer five practical tips for effective data management. These guidelines will help you make the most of your data plan, and ensure you stay connected without any unexpected interruption:

    Check your apps regularly

Understanding your data consumption is the first step towards managing it effectively. With the number of apps on our phones, from movie streaming to social media, it’s no surprise that we run out of data quickly.

Contrary to popular belief, your network provider is not exhausting your data, these apps tend to consume a lot of data, even when they are not actively in use. To control this, check out the apps consuming the most data, go to Settings, select Apps and Manage Apps.

    • Stream Smartly

When you stream videos in HD, it consumes high speed data. While we are eager to catch up on the latest episode of our favourite series, stream a new album or listen to podcasts, it is advisable to download this content when connected to Wi-Fi or rather, turn on the data saving mode on your device.

This way, you can enjoy your content to your heart’s desire while saving more data.

    • Share love, not your password

Share your love and data to your dearest and nearest but protect your hotspot. You can share other things but not the password to your hotspot! This helps secure your data and helps you enjoy it for longer periods.

Giving people access to password allows them to connect to your hotspot at any time, you risk having unauthorised devices using your data. To control this, you can change your password frequently to keep your hotspot protected.

    • Know your data plans

Choose the plan that suits your needs and lifestyle by dialling *312# and start browsing on your terms! You can subscribe to daily, weekly, monthly or night plans as well as binge bundles, bonus plans or social bundles.

If you’re a heavy data user and consistently run out of data, you might consider upgrading to a larger data bundle or plan.

    • Set a data limit

To enjoy your data and control its usage, set a data limit for every or the most used apps on your phone. Go to your phone’s settings, click on mobile service, then select data warning to set a limit for each app’s usage.

With these tips, you can increase your data lifespan while saving money. Always remember that you can know your data plans, keep your hotspot protected, set a data limit, stream smartly, monitor your data usage, and stay in charge by enabling data-saving mode on your mobile devices.
