Greece Offers Cash, Thanks Youth for Getting Vaccinated

Young people in Greece, who have been vaccinated against the coronavirus, will soon benefit not only from protection against COVID-19, but also from payment cards.

A 150 euros ($ 179) charge card is given as the country seeks to attract as many as possible for vaccination.

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis made the announcement on Monday, when the exercise is open to approximately 940,000 people aged 18 to 25 in the country.

Up to 141 million euros are set aside for training.

The government hopes to vaccinate 60% of Greece’s 11 million inhabitants by the end of July.

Dubbed the Freedom Card, the payment is billed as a thank you to young people who have shown patience, staying away from crowds during the pandemic in an attempt to stop transmission of the virus.

The money can be used for hotel reservations, ferry tickets, plane tickets, museum visits, and concerts.

Mitsotakis noted that even when people leave to enjoy the money, they should be aware of the risks posed by the virus.

“Young people may think they won’t get the coronavirus or, if they do, they think they won’t get very sick,” he said.

“But then they are carriers of the virus and contribute to its spread. “ (NAN)
