CCB to Begin Online Assets Declaration Soon — FG

As part of the reforms at the Code of Conduct Office, CCB, the Federal Government has said that the Office will soon implement an Online Asset Declaration Portal that would allow for better data storage and retrieval.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, who unveiled this at a press conference in Abuja, said that the online portal would reduce delays caused by incomplete and incorrect declarations and reduce errors, among others.

It revealed that the CCB in 2021 issued 125,000 Asset Declaration Forms, of which 97,201 forms were returned.

Mohammed said the figures represent a 48 percent increase in the number of asset declaration forms issued and an 81 percent increase in filing compliance compared to the previous year.

The minister also revealed that in 2021, the Office investigated several cases related to illicit enrichment, conflicts of interest, abuse of power and ethical misconduct.

He said the investigations led to the filing of more than 200 cases with the Code of Conduct Tribunal.

The CCB was established as an institutional response to the observed deterioration in the conduct of public officials and their abuse of public office for private gain.

The Bureau deals with, among other things, the matters of asset declaration of public officials, as well as the verification of their assets.
