Anambra State Police Command has apprehended four additional suspects linked to the brutal murder of three Cameroonian women, following confessions from two earlier detainees. The operation unfolded amid a fierce gun duel at a shrine in Nando community, Anambra East Local Government Area.
Police spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga disclosed on Monday that the victims—Bognou Alice, her niece Sandra, and another unidentified woman—were abducted on November 10, 2025, during a business trip to Onitsha. The abductors collected ransom from their families before killing them, with Alice and Sandra’s bodies later recovered from the Omambala River in Anambra West.
Suspects and Seizures
Ikenga named the newly arrested suspects as Chukwuemeka Emmanuel, alias “Ugoebenajah” (27), the alleged chief priest of the shrine; Nwabunne Bright (27); Chinecherem Chiama (21); and Michael Ekwunife (38). The raid on February 13, 2026, by the Rapid Response Squad in Awkuzu yielded two pump-action guns, a locally made Beretta pistol, a machete, assorted charms, expanded ammunition, ten live cartridges, and five 9mm rounds.
Gun Battle Details
Upon approaching the shrine, operatives encountered about 30 armed men who opened fire. Police responded professionally, neutralizing the threat while prime suspect Uchenna Mmaduamaka Nicholas escaped with bullet wounds alongside gang members. One arrested suspect sustained a thigh injury and is under medical care.
The suspects previously in custody—Nonso Augustine Akpeh (37) and Kingsley Akpeh (44)—provided leads that spurred the shrine raid. All detainees now face interrogation as the manhunt continues for fugitives.
Police Vow Continued Action
Ikenga reaffirmed the command’s dedication to residents’ safety, urging public tips for investigations. “Further developments will be communicated in due course,” the statement concluded.
