The office of the accountant general of the federation (AGF), says it has generated a turnover of 1.41 billion naira in the past three years, despite being a service office.
Mr. Ahmed Idris, AGF said this during his appearance before the House of Representatives committee on Fice Tuesday in Abuja to defend the 2022 budget.
He said the office’s 2022 budget was N10.470 billion.
“In the past three years, we have been able to generate 1.14 billion naira in revenue even though we are a service office,” he said.
He said the income came from the office training institution, bidding fees, classroom use, among others, adding that although the income was meager, it was accounted for.
“The personnel cost for 2022 is 4.34 billion naira and another part of the personnel cost is the foreign service for all Nigerian missions abroad amounting to 4.747 billion naira,” he said. he declares.
He said personnel costs for foreign missions were initially covered by Foreign Affairs but were transferred to the AGF Administrative Circular office.
He said that the AGF office was responsible for paying the salaries and estacode of foreign missions.
He listed the overhead at N 752.831 million and the capital at N 629.6 million, adding that his envelope for 2022 was almost the same as in 2021.
Committee member Representative Babajide Obanikoro previously questioned the 2022 budget saying it was similar to 2021.
Rep. James Faleke, the chairman of the committee also asked why the exchange rate for the foreign mission in the AGF presentation was set at N425 to the dollar compared to the N410 presented by Buhari.
In response, Idris said the exchange rate was higher because “we are still going to encounter some charges from the Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
“We can’t run away from this. Yes it is pegged to N410 but for CBN we have to pay more, we know N410 is what is approved.
“Getting the funds at an appropriate rate is one thing, but the transmission of the funds is the factor behind the higher fees,” he said.
Mr. Victor Muruako, president of the Fiscal Responsibility Commission (FRC), while appearing before the commission, to defend the 2022 budget, pleaded for the overhaul of the law establishing the commission.
