Russia Expresses Commitment to Resuscitation of Ajaokuta Steel Coy

Russia has reaffirmed its commitment to the resuscitation of the Nigerian company Ajaokuta Steel.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin revealed this during a ceremony to receive Usage copies of his credentials from Nigeria’s Ambassador to Russia Abdullahi Yibaikwal.

A statement issued by the Nigerian Embassy in Moscow said the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister, who was accompanied by the Director of the Africa Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Vsevolod Tkachenko, had pledged the country’s commitment. to relaunch the steel company.

He described Nigeria as one of the most important countries in Africa with which Russia has enjoyed cordial and mutually beneficial relations over the years.

Vershinin also thanked Nigeria for its understanding and support for Russian-sponsored resolutions at the United Nations level.

He revealed that Russia had been admitted as an observer in the group of non-aligned countries and requested Nigeria’s cooperation and support to deal with global issues such as terrorism, transnational crimes, control of armaments, climate change and human rights.

The deputy minister, who stressed the importance of the ceremony, said it was to enable the Nigerian ambassador to exercise diplomatic functions in the Russian Federation.

He wished the Ambassador a successful and fruitful period of service in the Russian Federation.

Yibaikwal, in his remarks, thanked the Russian government for its support to Nigeria and reiterated the need to maintain and deepen the mutual relations between the two countries.

The Nigerian envoy, the statement said, was accompanied by Mr. Mohammed Atose and Ms. Uminuga Nglass, all officials of the Nigerian Embassy in Moscow. (NAN)
