Football superstars Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo could share the same team for the first time later this year when they are expected to feature in Carlos Tevez’s testimonial match.
The two legends have spent much of their careers as fierce rivals, particularly during their years with Barcelona and Real Madrid, respectively.
With Messi now playing for Inter Miami in the United States and Ronaldo representing Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia, supporters could finally get the opportunity to watch the pair play on the same side.
Tevez, who played alongside both stars during his career, plans to invite them to his long-awaited testimonial match in December.
“Leo Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo will be there,” Tevez said.
“I’ll go pick them myself if I have to. I have both of them on WhatsApp.”
Tevez retired from professional football in 2021 but has yet to hold a testimonial match celebrating his illustrious career.
The Argentine enjoyed successful spells with Manchester United, Manchester City, Juventus and Boca Juniors, among other clubs.
According to reports, Boca Juniors president Juan Roman Riquelme has approved Tevez’s request to stage the testimonial at the club’s iconic La Bombonera Stadium.
Messi and Ronaldo are expected to headline a star-studded guest list that could also include former teammates and football legends such as Wayne Rooney, Rio Ferdinand, Andrea Pirlo and Gianluigi Buffon.
Messi and Tevez’s Argentina Connection
Messi and Tevez were teammates with Argentina between 2005 and 2015, featuring together during several major international competitions.
The pair shared the pitch for the national team for a decade before Tevez’s international career came to an end.
Ronaldo, Tevez and Rooney Reunion
Ronaldo and Tevez also formed part of a formidable Manchester United attack alongside Wayne Rooney during Tevez’s two-year spell at Old Trafford from 2007 to 2009.
The trio helped United dominate English and European football, winning back-to-back Premier League titles.
They also lifted the Champions League, League Cup and FIFA Club World Cup during that period.
If the proposed testimonial goes ahead as planned, it could provide fans with a rare opportunity to see Messi and Ronaldo on the same team — a moment that would mark another chapter in one of football’s greatest modern rivalries.
