Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has rejoined South African Premier Soccer League side Chippa United ahead of the 2026/27 season.
The club announced the return of the 30-year-old goalkeeper on Sunday via its official social media platforms, expressing delight at welcoming him back to the Eastern Cape.
“Chippa United Football Club is delighted to welcome Stanley Nwabali back to the Chilli Boys,” the club stated.
In a follow-up post, the club added: “After taking time away, Stanley Nwabali returns to the Eastern Cape, and we are pleased to welcome him back to the club.”
Nwabali returns to the club after spending about seven months away from competitive football, a period that affected his career and saw him lose his place in the Super Eagles squad.
The goalkeeper first joined Chippa United from Nigeria Premier Football League side Katsina United in 2022.
He rose to international prominence following his impressive performances for Nigeria at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), where the Super Eagles finished runners-up.
His displays during the tournament earned him widespread acclaim and established him as Nigeria’s first-choice goalkeeper.
The return to Chippa United is expected to provide Nwabali with regular playing time as he seeks to regain top form and strengthen his chances of returning to the national team ahead of future international assignments.
Chippa United will be hoping the experienced shot-stopper’s return strengthens the squad as the club prepares for the new South African Premier Soccer League season.
