FEC Approves 100% Gratuity for Retiring Federal Civil Servants

    FEC-meeting

Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved a new exit benefit scheme granting retiring federal civil servants gratuity equal to 100 percent of their total annual emoluments, effective January 1, 2026.

The Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation announced the decision in a statement Thursday in Abuja.

Under the scheme, civil servants with at least 10 years of service qualify for the gratuity alongside existing contributory pension benefits.

The approval followed deliberations by an inter-ministerial technical committee, which collaborated with the National Pension Commission, Budget Office of the Federation, and Office of the Accountant-General to craft a sustainable framework.

Mrs Didi Esther Walson-Jack, Head of the Civil Service, commended FEC for the initiative, calling it a major welfare boost.

She said it reflects President Bola Tinubu’s administration’s recognition of public servants’ dedication and sacrifices.

“This approval profoundly acknowledges civil servants’ invaluable contributions to public service and national development,” Walson-Jack stated.

“The scheme enhances retirement packages, boosts confidence in government welfare commitments, and aligns with reforms for a motivated, performance-driven civil service.”

She added that detailed implementation guidelines would follow soon.
