Last week, the committee sought Magaji’s dismissal for repeatedly ignoring summons and sending juniors, amid budget defense and financial discrepancy probes. Chairman Sani Musa berated him Monday: “This committee is not happy with your persistent refusal… We recommended your removal, but you appeared shortly after.”

Magaji apologized unreservedly, blaming communication lapses now fixed with a dedicated National Assembly liaison office. “I sincerely apologise… I assure you this will not happen again,” he said.

Satisfied, senators pleaded mercy: Diket Plang (Plateau Central) vouched for Magaji’s respectfulness; Ned Nwoko (Delta North), Jibrin Isa (Kogi East), and Orji Uzor Kalu (Abia North)—who sponsored the original motion—joined. Isa’s withdrawal motion, seconded by Nasir Musa Zango Daura (Katsina North), passed unanimously.

The committee stood down Magaji’s scanty 2024-2025 budget reports, demanding re-presentation Thursday.

Magaji, appointed by Tinubu on October 13, 2023, oversees CAC’s corporate regulation and development.
