Nigeria’s Inflation Rises to 15.15% in Dec Despite Food Price Relief

Nigeria’s headline inflation rate climbed to 15.15 percent in December 2025 from 14.45 percent in November, according to the latest Consumer Price Index data released Thursday by the National Bureau of Statistics.

The Consumer Price Index rose to 131.2, up 0.7 points from November’s 130.5, reflecting a 0.7 percent month-on-month spike.

Year-on-year, December’s rate marked a significant 19.65 percent decline from December 2024’s 34.80 percent, though analysts noted base effects from the November 2009 reference period.

Food inflation offered relief, dropping 1.49 points to 10.84 percent from November’s 11.08 percent, with year-on-year easing from 39.84 percent in December 2024.

The mixed signals come amid projections of seasonal December pressures from holiday spending and harvest timing.
