The petition, titled “Deport Nicki Minaj to Trinidad,” crossed 70,000 signatures shortly before the New Year, reflecting growing backlash from critics unhappy with the rapper’s recent political alignment. Detractors on social media have dubbed her “Nicki MAGAJ,” accusing her of embracing far-right politics.

The campaign was reportedly started by an individual using the pseudonym “Pedonika Minaj,” a provocative nickname that critics say is aimed at drawing attention to controversies surrounding Minaj’s husband, Kenneth Petty, a registered s3x offender. The petition includes references to Petty’s past legal issues and criticises Minaj for publicly defending him, as well as revisiting allegations that she harassed his accusers, claims Minaj has previously denied.

Earlier this year, Minaj also made headlines for a very public fallout with Jay-Z and his label, Roc Nation, further fuelling criticism that the petition claims reflects erratic behaviour.

As of now, the petition has no legal standing, and there is no indication that U.S. authorities or Trinidad and Tobago officials are considering any such action. Minaj has not publicly responded to the petition and attempts by media outlets to seek comment from Trinidad and Tobago’s government are reportedly ongoing.
