In a decisive move against transnational organized crime, the Nigeria Police Force has successfully repatriated Dai Qisheng, a high-profile Chinese fugitive, to the People’s Republic of China.

Dai, a notorious gang leader accused of orchestrating violent crimes in Guizhou Province, fled China in early 2024 after an arrest warrant was issued by the Public Security Bureau of Zhijin County. His escape triggered an international manhunt coordinated through INTERPOL.

On August 8, 2025, INTERPOL operatives in Nigeria tracked and arrested Dai in Abuja.

The operation was led by the INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB), Abuja, in close collaboration with INTERPOL NCB Beijing and the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria.

Following his arrest, Dai was repatriated to Beijing on August 15, 2025, under a police-to-police cooperation framework facilitated by INTERPOL.

The operation marks a significant milestone in global law enforcement collaboration.

Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun, praised the successful operation, stating that it sends a clear message to criminals worldwide: Nigeria will not be a safe haven for fugitives.

Force spokesperson DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi emphasized the importance of intelligence-sharing and international partnerships in combating modern crime networks.

He noted that the operation reflects Nigeria’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and contributing meaningfully to global security.
