Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has confirmed the arrest of controversial cross dresser, Idris Okuneye popularly called Bobrisky.

Contrary to earlier reports, which suggested Bobrisky’s arrest had not occurred, recent developments indicate otherwise according to our Correspondents.

Ravenewsonline reports that Bobrisky’s arrest was confirmed by Spokesperson for EFCC, Dele Oyewale.

Reportedly apprehended at Pinnock Estate in Lagos State on April 3, 2024, at 3 p.m., Bobrisky’s arrest has sparked widespread attention.

Oyewole said that Bobrisky was arrested on Wednesday, 3 April, 2024 at Pinnock Estate in Lagos State at 3 p.m. and is being detained at the Lagos office of the anti-graft agency.

According to him, the controversial cross-dresser was arrested for abuse of Naira, the nation’s currency.

He stated further that specifically, Bobrisky was arrested for currency mutilation.

As per Oyewale’s statement, Bobrisky is expected to face charges in court imminently.

This Online News Platform gathered that the development unfolds amidst recent discussions surrounding the legal implications of cross-dressing in Nigeria.

Just two days prior to Bobrisky’s arrest, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, a police spokesperson, had shed light on the complexities surrounding the arrest of individuals like Bobrisky and James Brow

Adejobi explained that while cross-dressing is not explicitly criminalized in Nigeria, the legal landscape concerning LGBTQ rights remains nuanced.

In March 2024, Bobrisky had vehemently defended his choice to embrace cross-dressing amid criticism. Taking to Instagram, he urged critics to respect individual choices and emphasized the importance of personal autonomy.

Despite ongoing debates, Bobrisky’s arrest underscores the ongoing scrutiny faced by individuals who defy traditional gender norms in Nigeria.
