    NDLEA arrests 75-year-old woman for drug trafficking

    Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a 75-year-old woman, Sekinat Soremekun, for dealing in illicit drugs in Lagos State.

    The 75-year-old woman was arrested in the Oshodi area of Lagos State on Friday, December 15, 2023.

    The spokesperson for the anti-drug agency, Femi Babafemi, made the disclosure in a statement issued on Sunday, December 17.

    Babafemi noted that at the time of the woman’s arrest, quantities of cannabis and litres of codeine syrup were recovered from her.

    “She claimed her son, Segun, who is now at large supplied her the illicit substances which she retailed,” the NDLEA spokesman added.

    The statement reads: “Meanwhile, NDLEA operatives in Lagos on Friday 15th December arrested a 75-year-old grandma, Mrs. Sekinat Soremekun for dealing in illicit drugs.

    “At the time of her arrest in Oshodi area of Lagos, quantities of cannabis and litres of codeine syrup were recovered from her. She claimed her son, Segun who is now at large supplied her the illicit substances which she retailed.”

    Babafemi further quoted the NDLEA Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd), as urging the officers of the anti-drug agency to intensify the offensive action tempo against drug cartels as the yuletide season approaches while maintaining an equal balance with their drug demand reduction efforts.
