Nigerian UFC Welterweight Champion Kamaru Usman Defends His Title Against Leon Edwards This Sunday

UFC Welterweight Champion

Reigning UFC Welterweight Champion Kamaru ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ Usman returns to the Octagon this weekend to defend the UFC Welterweight title against Leon Edwards in the main event of UFC 278.

The much-anticipated fight will air Sunday, 21st August, 2022, on SuperSport Action (DStv channel 210) at 3am WAT and will see the Nigerian-American return home with the title or relinquish it to his British opponent.

Usman is currently on an impressive 19-fight win streak that dates as far back as 2013 and would be aiming for his sixth successful title defence against Edwards. With 19 wins, nine of which are from knockouts, Usman is ranked as one of the best Martial Artists in the world and No.1 in the Men’s pound-for-pound category.

Edwards, on the other hand, will be getting his first shot at the UFC title. He enters the fight with a nine consecutive winning streak after the triumph over the likes of Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone, Gunnar Nelson, and Rafael dos Anjos and Nate Diaz, whom he defeated by decision last summer.

Edwards might also use this opportunity to turn the tables on Usman as the fight will mark the second time the Nigerian-American faces the Briton. The two first met in a match in 2015, where Usman won the match by a unanimous decision.

It’s safe to say it’s a second chance for the two skilful fighters. Who will take the belt home? There’s only one way to know. Catch all the action this Sunday on SuperSport Action (DStv channel 210).
