LASG Summons MNOs, ISPs, Others for Safety Audit of Infrastructures

The Lagos State Safety Commission (LSSC) has summoned operators of communication infrastructures in the state to prepare for a safety audit of their facilities within the state.

The LSSC explained in a notice signed by Lanre Mojola, its Director General, and directed at operators of the communications facilities across various sectors that the exercise is in accordance with its statutory duty.

The Commission explained that the morale behind the exercise is to ensure safety of lives and properties at all levels and to sensitize all stakeholders that will be directly connected with the exercise and other safety related issues that will enhance safety culture within the state.

The Commission listed affected players in the state to include Mobile Networks Operators (MNOs) Internet Service Providers (ISPs), Infrastructure Providers, Banks, Finance House & Capital Market Operators, Downstream Oil Operators, Television and Radio Broadcasting Stations and other companies using communication infrastructure located within the geographical boundaries.

The statement partly read: “The physical inspection will cut across the following infrastructure: Workplace Safety Audit; Experience Centre Safety Audit & Inspections, Systems Audits and Health & Safety Process for  all Communication Infrastructure ; and Inspection of Safety Signages  and adequate safety lightning across work places including cell cites,experience centres and offices.”

The Commission also directed “Relevant Stakeholders to visit our office at Block 18 B, 2nd & 3rd floor, The Secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja between the hours of 8.00am and 5.00pm, Monday –Friday. We therefore seek for the cooperation of all the companies connected with this exercise,” the commission said.

The Lagos State Safety Commission was established by Gazette No. 23, Vol 44, Cap No. 6 Laws of Lagos State Y2011.

The Commission is mandated to ensure safety of lives and property across all socio-economic sectors of the State.

It is also vested with the powers to issue and withdraw overall Safety Compliance Certificate at all levels.
