MTN Nigeria

MTN Nigeria, Nigeria’s leading telecommunications firm, has won the award for Best Brand in Storytelling for its group-wide “What Are We Doing Today” rebrand campaign at the seventh edition of the Lagos State PR Industry Gala and Award (LaPRIGA).

The event hosted by the Lagos state chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) is held annually to celebrate excellence and outstanding achievements among individuals and organisations in the public relations industry.

The night also saw MTN Nigeria’s Senior Manager, External Relations, Funso Aina win the award for Most Influential PR Professional for engineering the MTN Media Innovation Programme (MIP) in partnership with the School of Media & Communication, Pan-Atlantic University with the inaugural edition taking 20 journalists to Wits University, South Africa and equipping them with digital media skills.

Aina who is a member of the NIPR,  says he considers the award, coming from an industry regulator, a testament to MTN’s commitment to supporting developments in the Nigerian media space and enabling capacity-building initiatives to enable innovation in media practice. “I am grateful for the recognition and extend my appreciation to the Lagos Chapter of the NIPR for consistently organising the awards, and more importantly for promoting best practices in the industry.”

According to the organisers, the “What Are We Doing Today” rebrand campaign was selected for its excellent deployment of editorial content, and partnerships with content creators and influencers to drive conversations that reached over 22 million people and delivered outstanding outputs and outcomes for the telecommunications firm.

This win adds to the long list of laurels that the telecommunications giant has previously picked up at the event.  In 2019, MTN won two awards at LaPRIGA for best in Crisis Management and Excellence in Internal Communication and followed it up in 2021 with a win for Excellence in Community Relations as a result of the achievements of its social investment arm, MTN Foundation.
