Witness Cross-Examination Continues as Sule Lamido’s N1.3bn Fraud Trial Resumes

The trial of a former governor of Jigawa state, Alhaji sule Lamido, his two sons, Aminu and Mustapha, Aminu Wada Abubakar, and two companies: Bamaina Holdings Ltd and Speeds International Ltd, continued before Abuja Federal High Court Judge Ijeoma Ojukwu on Monday.

The trial begins with continued cross–examination of the sixteenth prosecution witness, Mercy Titus, a Certified Ethical Hacker and Forensic Analyst with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

Mr. Lamido and his two sons, Aminu and Mustapha, Aminu Wada Abubakar, Bamaina Holdings Ltd and Speeds International Ltd are facing trial for an alleged N1.35 billion fraud.

The former governor is alleged to have abused his position between 2007 and 2015 by awarding contracts to companies in which he had interests, using his children as fronts and taking bribes from contractors.

At today’s resumed hearing, Titus (PW16) was asked, during cross-examination by defense counsel, if he was aware that Dantata and Sawoe are on trial.

She responded that her responsibility as a forensic and operational expert for the Commission is to perform digital forensic analysis.

“My job is to perform a digital forensic analysis on the computer hard drive, to determine the date and time of the magazines and compare them to what was on the printout of the magazines generated from the hard drive,” he said.

Subsequently, Judge Ojukwu adjourned the matter until Tuesday, January 25, 2022 for the continuation of the trial.
