NPC to Transit to Functional Digitised, Automated Library System

Alhaji Isa Kwarra, the Executive Chairman, National Population Commission (NPC) says the commission is prepared to transit to a fully functional digitised and automated library system.

He said this while declaring open a workshop on ‘Library Management and Development’ by the commission in Mararaba, Nasarawa on Monday.

Represented by Dr Sulaiman Ismaila, Federal Commissioner for Kano, Kwarra said that the automated library would provide fast and rapid access for those who desire to use the library.

He added that “it goes without saying that a population library, well equipped and stocked, will be a treasure-trove of information for diverse groups of citizens.

“Seeking for knowledge in the areas of academics, research and even policy formulation to complement existing reference points; and for data acquisition toward better population management.”

Kwarra, who reiterated the determination of the commission to make the library accessible, said it would advance information dissemination strategy.

He urged participants to seize the opportunity provided by the workshop to improve their knowledge on library management.

Mr Ayodeji Ajayi, the Chairman, Population Studies Department of NPC, promised that the department would continue to interface with others in achieving desired results.

Mrs Patience Mbagwu, the Director, Population Studies Department, said the training was designed to enhance digitisation of library management.

Mbagwu, who expressed optimism in the outcome of the training, said participants would be equipped on modern techniques of digital library management.

Mr Harry Ipalibo, the Federal Commissioner for Rivers, called for partnership with the library board, to be independent publishers of population compendium.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the two-day workshop is strategic in developing a functional digital library that will provide modern services and resources for population management. (NAN)
