Jagun Emerges New President of Computer Professionals Council

Mr Kole Jagun has emerged the new President and Chairman in Council of the Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria (CPN).

Mr Aderemi Awe, Head, Media and Publicity of CPN said this on Thursday in a statement in Abuja.

According to the election results released by Prof. Abimbola Soriyan, the Chairperson of the CPN Electoral Committee, Jagun polled 270 votes, representing 70.3 per cent of the total votes cast.

He defeated his contender, Prof. Afolayan Obiniyi who polled 110 votes in the online election.

Jagun ,a consummate IT practitioner and entrepreneur is the immediate past Vice President of CPN.

He is expected to saddle the leadership of the council for the next two years.

Dr Eyo Effiong, the only candidate for the post of Vice President, polled 341 votes to be returned unopposed.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the online election was meant to hold concurrently with the council’s IT Assembly and Annual General Meeting on April 8, but had inconsistencies and shifted to May 6.

NAN also reports that Prof. Charles Uwadia is the immediate past President of CPN.

The council is primarily charged with the responsibility of building local Information Technology (IT) capacity as well as the regulation of IT practice in Nigeria and supervised by the Federal Ministry of Education. (NAN)
