In a recent assessment for permanent secretary positions within the Federal Civil Service, 19 out of 38 directors failed to meet the requirements to advance past the qualifying exam.
This was disclosed in a memo signed by Dr. Emmanuel Meribole, representing the examination committee, and released by the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF) on Tuesday, November 12.
The qualifying exams, conducted on Monday, November 11, 2024, were part of a selection process initiated by the Federal Government in October to fill permanent secretary vacancies across eight states.
Eno Olotu, Director of Press at the OHCSF, clarified the selection process, stating, “Of the 38 eligible directors who sat for the exam, 19 have passed the first stage and will move on to the second stage, which will assess their competency in using Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in government operations on Wednesday, November 13, 2024.”
According to Olotu, the recruitment involves a stringent three-stage process to ensure that only the most qualified candidates are selected. Those who successfully complete the ICT assessment will advance to the final phase on Friday, November 15, 2024, where they will be evaluated by a panel comprising senior bureaucrats and private sector leaders.
The OHCSF reiterated its commitment to maintaining transparency and merit in the selection of high-ranking officials within the Federal Civil Service.
